2017 Elementary Oratorical Competition

Samuel Secunde, a fifth-grade student from Charles England was the first place winner in the LCS Elementary Oratorical Competition held December 1st at Charles England Elementary School.  The district competition, sponsored by the Jacket Academic Boosters Club, was comprised of grades 3-5 top scorers from school level competitions.  Each student wrote a 3-5 minute speech about the topic, “If I were mayor of Lexington - what would I do to make my town a better place in which to live.”  While judges worked to tabulate the scores, top winning students from grades 1-2 delighted the audience by reciting short poems, one of which was an original.  Samuel was presented a $200 check from the Jacket Academic Boosters by Mr. Curlee, along with Booster Board members Donald Holt and Sylvia Walser.  Libni Ivonn Martinez, a fifth-grade student from Charles England was presented $100 for winning second place.  Third place was a tie between Ayanna Curry and Tyzick Carranco-Bahena.  They will each receive a $50 check from the Boosters.
